The right-wing wingnuts are in a tizzy about yet another '“right” being taken away from them by the libs. Gas stoves? I’ve been ignoring this story simply because it sounded so idiotic, but when I saw the GOP’s shiny new gas bag…I mean…toy, Ron DeSantis grandstanding that “Florida Ain’t Woke, We’re Cooking With Gas,” I had to dig in and see what was making these GOP idiots’ blood boil over.

Sidebar: I was just at my local Bristol Farms Grocery Store when an older gentleman came up to me and started screaming about the high prices of steak and that the libs are banning gas stoves like it was all my fault. I apologized for that and the ills of the world out of fear that this was it; I was going to get shot by a lunatic while innocently buying ingredients to make a vegetable soup that I would cook on my gas stove. It was immediately clear that he was a Fox-watching republican and somehow was also Jewish and gay. I knew to keep my mouth shut. Brandishing a gun would have been the preferred option to his incessant blathering, an illness that my sister and I call “the talking disease.” Kill me now. I was cornered into the organic, fresh produce section and could not get out from under the barrage of how terrible democrats are and how proud he is of the new House of Representatives. I finally found an opening, slinked away, and said, “Don’t eat steak.”

What I can say about Gas Stove Gate is that, once again, the democrats can’t message their way out of a paper bag. In doing the simplest Google search:

Households with electric stoves reported greater fire risks. Equally staggering, the death rate of electric-run households was 3.4 times higher than those with gas appliances — and the injury rate was nearly five times greater.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission said they hadn’t ruled out banning gas stoves and quickly corrected their statement that they were “not planning one.” Ah, the American government at work. Between them and the CDC, who can listen to these people? I get it; there might be advantages in new construction, and there are certain health hazards with gas, but then again, also to just about everything. Moronic Texas representative Ronny Jackson wept on Twitter, saying, “They can pry it (gas stove) from my cold dead hands.” Although that makes banning gas stoves sound like a good idea, surely, in his case, we have to know when to shut the fuck up and distance ourselves away from anything that remotely sounds like it could be “woke.” That word is becoming worse than a racial slur and needs to be stricken from everyone’s lips.

Whatever the possible upside to electric vs. gas, at this particular moment, the Democrats needed to shut this whole thing down immediately by saying, “We never said that, it wasn’t our idea,” and blame the CPSC. Haven’t we learned that the GOP gas bags will use any ammunition to fight us as the heightened culture war rages on? When stoves, gays, trans, vaginas, and even uncovered arms become fodder, we lose. If the Democrats hope to ever regain the House and dare I say, keep the White House, they need to be strategic NOW, not start three months before the 2024 election. Otherwise, our goose is cooked.
