Surely, I am not alone in feeling exorbitant levels of high anxiety between the news, social media feeds, the scale, my blood pressure machine, my husband, it’s endless. Nothing comes easy and nothing feels effortless or right, right about now. I’ve been churning on a cycle that I’ve had to navigate my whole life and still manage to find peace and serenity within the otherwise tidal wave of emotions. Not to mention some things not going to plan or on plan or as hoped.
Certain facts are clear: 1) This too shall pass. 2) That which doesn’t kill us makes us stronger. 3) Life is choice. I choose wanting peace today. Although it sounds like a stretch in the midst of the war overseas and the one on our shores being battled within the political minefield that is tormenting each and every one of us. As a fix, I do yoga almost every day, walking mediation and by noon, the reality of life on life’s terms seeps in and reminds me that things are going haywire in every direction.
There’s no thanking God it’s Friday for me. Since COVID-19 every days feels like Monday, with the remnants of the Sunday night stomachache stuck in my craw. Thankfully, I remember the Serenity Prayer: God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference. Then, as promised, the this too shall pass—does—for the most part. Yet, we still must slog through the most tenuous political boondoggle where no one seem safe, really, no matter who wins, whichever war. Pick your poison.
Now let me remind you, I am an optimist—if you read my book, you’ll see—though you’d never guess from this post. But part of “getting on with it” is admitting that some days are harder than others. Being honest with myself enough to admit it in a public forum is important for me and perhaps someone else. For that reason alone, I am here to share and provide a space to vent. (Please do via DM or email.) We have to find peace in the maelstrom and solace wherever and whenever it appears. Hopefully sooner than later.
For this particular Friday, I’m shifting my perspective with a hope for us all to be better. Frankly, I don’t see how all this angst is going to help any one of us in the long run. So, join me, take a deep breath in, hold, exhale and May Peace Prevail on Earth.
Literally & figuratively…
Abe
PS…Listening to my Audiobook on Audible while walking can be very meditative and hilarious.
