To my darling Sustack community:
It might be a tad unconventional (OK, self-serving) to wish myself a happy birthday as part of the Abe Won’t Be Silent Substack newsletter. However, my reasons are not selfish; I definitely wanted to share the joy that I am currently experiencing for so many reasons, including having you, my darling Substack community. Over the past few months, as so many new subscribers have joined the party, I feel connected to this particular group of social media enjoyers rather than what we all know as “social media climbers.” You know who they are. Here at Substack, we are different animals from TikTokers and Instagram-aholics. Over here, it’s less about immediate gratification, which Carrie Fisher used to say: “takes too long.”
The day I handed my finished manuscript “Won’t Be Silent—Don’t Stop ‘til It Matters” to the publisher, a magnificent, new feeling washed over me, which made me think, “If only I could bottle and sell this, there would be no more wars.” The amount of self-respect and self-love that washed over me by having taken all the steps and actions to complete this Herculean task was a joy that more people needed to experience. Especially at this critical juncture as the Walls of Jericho come tumbling down all around us, literally, figuratively, and otherwise.
Now is the time for more people to feel grateful for what they have, hope for peaceful solutions, and pray for a brighter future. It is also important to live and let live and leave those who have no direct involvement in any of the chaos happening worldwide alone.
I'm grateful to be alive for another day, another birthday, and honey, I have had many. This birthday, I am embarking on yet another new journey—sorry, Lizzie, she’s my editor and doesn’t like that word. Lizzie kept me on my path to finish my book “Won’t Be Silent—Don’t Stop ‘til It Matters.” And now, the road ahead to take the book to where it needs to go is long—to the moon and beyond.
[SIDEBAR] Move over Costume Institute Met Gala—tonight, for my birthday; the theme is: “It's Never Too Late To Follow Your Dreams.” Life changes on the dime. And not only for the worse. It can change for the extraordinary, as it has with me in this particular moment where I am pursuing a dream I never actually dreamed. I never believed I could say, “I am a writer,” without kidding myself and singing: I dreamed a dream in time gone by. When hope was high and life worth living.
I feel comfortable enough to share how I feel and be vulnerable about this moment of reflection because it is a universal trait that we all want to go deeper into loving ourselves and doing what matters in this world. To ourselves and others.
So, happy birthday to me. Please consider buying my book or audiobook. I'd be eternally grateful. Besides, I know you will enjoy my life’s story. Check out the slew of Amazon reviews that I've received. I’m confident that it’s a worthwhile, fun ride and totally worth your time and effort. In addition, I look forward to hearing your comments and reviews.
PS…My new book, “Won't Be Silent—Don’t Stop ‘til It Matters,” is now on Amazon.
“Embracing my superpowers of humor and optimism to survive being a second-generation Holocaust survivor, coming out, addiction, and endless unbelievable obstacles.”
Belatedly, Happy Birthday, Abe.
Happy Birthday, Abe! What a joy to have met you! I wish for you a year filled with joy and many happy surprises 😊
