Elton John’s song, “Candle in the Wind,” has been on my mind since watching the fourth episode of “The Crown, Season 6,” where Diana appears as a ghost to Prince Charles and Queen Elizabeth. That episode brought me to tears because it reminded me why she was so loved and admired. Elton’s song implies that she was vulnerable and in jeopardy, which sadly came to pass.
There was something about Princess Diana’s humanity that touched people worldwide. The Crown did her a great service and was a lovely sendoff to honor her memory and legacy, unlike the fodder we have endured between biopics, media preoccupation with her sons, and all the royal family hullabaloo.
Humanity, now there’s a word that’s lost its luster as of late, between the violence in Israel, followed by the retaliation in Gaza, not to mention the MILLIONS of violence-prone MAGA animals here in the good ol’ USA. Humanity, I don’t think so. Everywhere I turn, I’m confronted with some heinous form of antisemitism, be it on social media, in the news, or visible signs as I drive around Los Angeles. What exactly do these idiots think is their long game?
Since my parents survived the Holocaust, I have my whole life wondered if I would ever see something similar happen, realizing early on that people hate Jews for some mentally deformed reason. Just to be clear, Jews in America who are on the receiving end of unprecedented antisemitic hate will not allow this moment of vulnerability to determine our future. We are not candles in the wind, Hannukah, Shabbat, and surely not Yarzeit Memorial ones, either.
Seriously, what do they think hating us buys them? Do the radical Islamists and Christian Nationalists actually believe they can band together to eliminate Jews altogether? It turns out that is not as far-fetched an idea as one might think. Recently, sicko nutbag Mike Flynn of Trump-derangement-syndrome fame met with the first Muslim mayor of Hamtramck, Michigan Amer Ghalib, along with his city council to discuss strengthening relations with the GOP because they share traditional conservative values. CORRECTION: hateful anti-lgbtqia+-and surely some Jew hatred sprinkled in there as well as their current OBSESSION to #AbandonBiden uber alles.
I’m no conspiracy theorist, but those two groups baked together make an evil pie and could lead to no good. We know all too well their whole “from the river to the sea” meets “the rapture” hatred of the Jews. Admittedly or otherwise.
Might I give you sick fucks some loving advance warning? Jews ain’t going anywhere. Lord knows — your lords, not ours — how hard y’all have tried for CENTURIES! If Jews were meant to be eliminated from the planet, we would not have survived 40 years in the desert, having escaped slavery from Egypt after building the pyramids. The constipation from eating all the matzoh alone would have taken us out. Now kindly go fuck, or off yourselves, preferably the latter.
yikes. block me if you can't deal.
Abe please read books and articles by Norman Finklestein, Dr Gabor, and pape, for starters. I feel for your generational trauma. But your trauma is not something unique. It is not unique to Jewish people and it is not a reason or excuse to commit a similar genocide. You are surprisingly ignorant of the history of Zionism and Israel. I am floored by your cruel one sided statements. There is something incredibly narcissistic about centering yourself as a victim or for Jewish people to center themselves as a group, when millions are being forever displaced and thousands of people killed viscously. What is wrong with you? Never again means never again for anyone. Israel will now be seen by future generations the same way we see the nazis of last century. Israel has done more harm to Jewish people than any white supremacist since Hitler. Zionism uses the vulnerability of Jewish people.
